Climate Action Winterbourne – Transition Together

Climate Action Winterbourne is a new Transition community which builds on the work of our pop-up Repair Café in a community hall. We would like to expand into a permanent Sharing and Repair Hub offering repaired items for hire in a library of things. This will address sustainable use of resources, reduce poverty through sharing and borrowing household items, and enable communities to socially connect together to build resilience.

Winterbourne Library provides a fantastic location to develop this project further into a Community Climate Action Hub. The Library is open 3-4 days per week with staffing, and 7 days a week with a free open access card, thus providing access to free books and digital services, a Warm and Well space, and free events for families, disabled people and older people. It is also in a central location, near a primary school and secondary school, and the local shops. This means it is the most equitable site in Winterbourne to host a new hub – as it already serves communities that we want to engage in visioning a just low carbon future for Winterbourne. The location at Winterbourne Library provides a great location to reach families, older people, and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, who might not otherwise be involved in climate action.
