  • New parks needed in Winterbourne

    In a survey in November 2021, we asked local parents about their experiences of local parks and leisure facilities. 86 parents responded, and most stated that there were not sufficient parks nearby. The numerous comments showed how parents were having to drive to nearby towns and villages to access parks, tennis courts, and bike tracks.

    Litter picking! It was properly raining when I headed out at 8:30 am on Saturday morning. I armed myself with litter picker, hoop and bag and a spare bag in case it was needed, and my cycling gloves and headed out into the morning greyness.

    South Gloucestershire Council say they will assess Mill Road/Worrell's Lane for road safety funding... in 2022/2023. We say that is not good enough. Local residents and their children face dangerous speeding and near misses every day on their walk or cycle to school.

  • Raw sewage in our local rivers

    In periods of heavy rain our sewers overflow raw sewage into our rivers and seas via Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs). One of our local volunteers sought out the CSO located near Huckford Viaduct. In 2020 that one spilled 74 times and ran for a total of 110 hours.

    On a very windy Saturday morning, around fifty community volunteers in the Winterbourne area left their houses with bags, gloves and litter grabbers and meticulously tried to clean every bit of litter from our roads, lanes and parks, no matter how big or small.

    Campaign and community groups from across the West of England are joining forces to scrutinise candidates' positions on climate and nature in the forthcoming Metro-Mayoral elections. The public from across the region will have a chance to put their questions and hear candidates' responses at an online hustings on Monday 19 April.
